What you get

Four things we build for UK finance

You bring the financial expertise. We bring the engineering — UK-grounded, built for the audit your team owns.

  • Payment processing

Card flows offloaded to validated providers (Stripe, Square, GoCardless). Cardholder data does not transit our systems — by design.

  • KYC & AML flows

Identity verification and anti-money-laundering pipelines that fit the obligations of FCA-authorised clients without destroying conversion.

  • Transaction monitoring

Real-time and batch monitoring that flags suspicious activity and generates the audit trail regulators expect.

  • Regulatory reporting

Automated reporting pipelines that pull from your transaction data and output what the FCA and HMRC ask for.

How we work

Our process

Four phases, same rhythm every engagement. Cardholder data scope and FCA obligations mapped in discovery so there are no mid-build surprises.

  1. Discovery

Map payment flows, data architecture, and compliance touchpoints. Card-data scope minimised by design; client FCA obligations catalogued.

  2. Design

Architecture diagrams, security boundary definitions, and clickable prototypes — reviewed with your compliance team.

  3. Build

Agile delivery with payment-flow integration testing against Stripe / Square sandboxes. Encryption at rest, TLS in transit, tokenised payment data, audit logs end to end.

  4. Launch

Go-live with penetration test results, handover docs, and a 30-day window where fixes are free while you settle in.

Compliance map

The UK finance baseline

Six frameworks we design against on every finance engagement — with specifics, not hand-waving.

Engineering for FCA-authorised clients

Byte Bridges is not an FCA-authorised firm. We build software that supports our clients' FCA obligations — permissions dashboards, complaint-handling workflows, and audit trails that map to SYSC and PRIN expectations. The authorisation remains the client's responsibility.

Payment flows offloaded to validated providers

Cardholder data is handled by Stripe, Square, or GoCardless — not by Byte Bridges-built systems. Our delivery sits at the application layer, out of card-handling scope by design (SAQ A pattern). See our Controls Map for what this means in practice.

Open Banking / PSD2

Account information and payment initiation services built to the Open Banking UK standard. Consent flows, TPP registration support, and API security to OBIE specs.

Strong Customer Authentication

SCA flows designed to meet PSD2 requirements — two-factor authentication, dynamic linking, and exemption handling that balances security with conversion.

UK GDPR & DPA 2018

Lawful basis, DPIA, data minimisation, and subject rights handled as architectural decisions — not a checklist bolted on before go-live. Financial data gets extra scrutiny.

OWASP ASVS Level 2 + CIS Controls v8 IG1

Application-security verification and cloud-infrastructure hardening built to the underlying control sets. See the Controls Map for which control IDs are implemented and the evidence we can produce.

Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

Are you FCA authorised?

No — and we're upfront about that. We're a software consultancy, not a regulated firm. We build software that supports your FCA obligations, but you remain the authorised entity. We work alongside your compliance team and legal counsel to make sure the technology does what your regulatory framework requires.

How do you handle cardholder data scope?

We define the cardholder data environment boundary in discovery and design the architecture to minimise PCI scope — tokenisation via a PCI-compliant payment processor where possible, network segmentation where card data must be handled directly. We'll help you prepare for your QSA assessment, but the certification itself is between you and your assessor.

Can you build Open Banking integrations?

Yes. We build to the Open Banking UK standard for both AIS and PIS use cases. That includes consent management, TPP-side API integration, and the webhook infrastructure for asynchronous payment status updates. If you need AISP or PISP registration guidance, we'll point you to the right FCA pathway but we don't handle the regulatory application itself.

Where is financial data stored?

UK region (AWS eu-west-2 London by default) unless you explicitly require another location. No third-country transfers without a contract, DPIA, and written sign-off. For financial services, UK data residency is the default assumption — we design for it from the start.

Can you integrate with our legacy core banking system?

It depends on the system's API surface. Modern core banking platforms (Thought Machine, Mambu, 10x) have clean APIs. Legacy systems often mean SOAP endpoints, batch file exchanges, or mainframe screen-scraping — all doable but slower and more expensive. We'll assess feasibility in discovery before quoting so there are no surprises mid-build.
