What you get

Four things we build for UK public sector

You bring the service knowledge. We bring the engineering — GDS-informed, accessibility-first, and built to withstand scrutiny.

  • Citizen service portals

Self-service platforms built to the GDS Service Manual — accessible, performant, and designed around real user needs.

  • Document & case management

Structured workflows for processing applications, correspondence, and FOI requests — with full audit trails.

  • Workflow automation

Replace manual spreadsheet processes with auditable, repeatable workflows that free staff time for higher-value work.

  • Identity & access

Secure authentication and role-based access built for public sector requirements — including GOV.UK Verify and GOV.UK One Login integration.

How we work

Our process

Four phases, same rhythm every engagement. User research and accessibility testing built in from the discovery stage.

  1. Discovery

Map the service, data flows, and compliance touchpoints. DPIA scoped where needed. User research run as the GDS discovery phase prescribes.

  2. Design

Service blueprints, architecture diagrams, and clickable prototypes — measured against the GDS Service Manual.

  3. Build

Agile delivery with WCAG testing throughout. Encryption at rest, TLS in transit, audit logs end to end.

  4. Launch

Go-live with training, handover docs, and a 30-day window where fixes are free while your team settles in.

Compliance map

The UK public sector baseline

Six frameworks we design against on every government engagement — with specifics, not hand-waving.

GDS Service Manual followed where applicable

The Service Manual's standards — user research, accessibility, technology code of practice, performance metrics — applied as a design constraint, not retrofitted. Service-specific assessment available on request.

GOV.UK Design System (on request)

Component library and patterns implemented when delivering for HMG or services that follow the GOV.UK design conventions. Available as a project add-on rather than a default.

Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018

WCAG 2.1 AA as the floor today, with WCAG 2.2 in flight. Accessibility statements published in the prescribed structure; disproportionate burden only claimed where genuinely justified.

UK GDPR & DPA 2018

Lawful basis, DPIA, data minimisation, and subject rights handled as architectural decisions — not a checklist bolted on before go-live.

OWASP ASVS Level 2 + CIS Controls v8 IG1

Application-security verification and cloud-infrastructure hardening built to the underlying control sets. See our Controls Map for the specific control IDs and the evidence we can produce.

What we don't claim

Byte Bridges is not currently listed on G-Cloud and is not assessed under the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (which applies to OES and CNI suppliers). See the Controls Map for the full non-claim list.

We're in early conversations with a UK local authority on a citizen self-service and case management platform. Case study published once the project goes live.

Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

Are you listed on G-Cloud?

No. Byte Bridges is not currently on the G-Cloud Digital Marketplace — see our Controls Map for the full non-claim list. We can work under direct award or existing framework routes your procurement team already uses. We'll be upfront about what contracting vehicle works and what doesn't — no point wasting your time or ours.

Can you pass a GDS service assessment?

We design against the GDS Service Manual from discovery onwards, so the assessment criteria are built into the process rather than retrofitted. That said, assessment outcomes depend on your service context and the assessor panel — we'll prepare you thoroughly, but we won't guarantee a pass because nobody honestly can.

How do you handle accessibility?

WCAG 2.1 AA is the baseline on every build, with the WCAG 2.2 success criteria in flight (committed in our public Accessibility Statement). We test with automated tools (axe, Lighthouse) and manual screen-reader checks throughout development — not just before launch. We'll also draft your accessibility statement. If something genuinely can't meet AA, we document the disproportionate burden case properly.

Where is citizen data stored?

UK region (AWS eu-west-2 London by default) unless you explicitly require another location. No third-country transfers without a contract, DPIA, and written sign-off. For most public sector work, UK-only hosting is the straightforward and correct choice.

What are realistic procurement timelines?

From first conversation to signed contract, public sector procurement typically takes 4–12 weeks depending on the route (G-Cloud call-off is faster, open tender is slower). We've budgeted for the back-and-forth — clarification questions, evaluation scoring, standstill periods. We won't quote timelines that ignore procurement reality.
