What you get

Four things we build for UK manufacturing

You bring the process knowledge. We bring the engineering — sensor-to-dashboard, OT-secure, and built for the audit.

  • IoT sensor pipelines

Ingest, normalise, and route data from sensors on the shop floor — MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus, or plain HTTP — into a single time-series store.

  • Predictive maintenance

Spot anomalies before they become downtime. Vibration, temperature, and current draw patterns fed into models that flag equipment drift.

  • Quality control systems

Digital inspection workflows, SPC charting, and non-conformance tracking — replacing clipboards with dashboards.

  • Production dashboards

OEE, throughput, scrap rate, and downtime — live on screen in the ops room and on mobile for shift managers.

How we work

Our process

Four phases, same rhythm every engagement. OT network boundary and sensor protocol scope mapped in discovery before a line of code is written.

  1. Discovery

Walk the shop floor. Map sensor points, data flows, legacy PLC interfaces, and compliance touchpoints before writing a line of code.

  2. Design

Architecture diagrams, sensor-to-dashboard data models, and clickable prototypes — reviewed with plant engineers and ops managers.

  3. Build

Agile delivery with sensor integration sprints. Edge gateways, TLS in transit, encrypted at rest, and audit logs end to end.

  4. Launch

Go-live with operator training, handover docs, and a 30-day window where fixes are free while the line settles in.

Compliance map

The UK manufacturing baseline

Six frameworks we design against on every manufacturing engagement — with specifics, not hand-waving.

OWASP ASVS Level 2

Application-security verification across authentication, session, access control, validation, error handling, and data protection. See our Controls Map for the specific verification items implemented.

CIS Controls v8 (Implementation Group 1)

All 56 IG1 safeguards across the 18 CIS Controls applied to cloud infrastructure delivered or managed by Byte Bridges. Per-environment hardening checklist and IaC modules (Terraform / CDK) form the evidence trail.

Quality management practice (BS EN ISO 9001 control set)

Audit trails, document control, corrective action workflows, and management-review data baked into the software. Byte Bridges is not certified to ISO 9001 as an organisation; we build to the underlying control set so your QMS audit has the evidence it needs.

UKCA marking — flagged at discovery

Where software interfaces with machinery or safety-critical systems, we flag UKCA implications during discovery and advise on conformity assessment routes. Software-as-a-medical-device or machinery-directive work is scoped explicitly before the build starts.

UK GDPR (employee data)

Manufacturing systems often hold shift rosters, performance metrics, and biometric clock-in data. Lawful basis, retention, and subject rights handled as architecture — not afterthought.

Health & Safety Act digital records

Digital near-miss reporting, COSHH logs, and incident-tracking modules that satisfy HSE record-keeping expectations and make audits painless.

Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

Can you integrate with our legacy PLCs and SCADA systems?

It depends on the PLC generation and protocol surface. Modern Allen-Bradley, Siemens S7, and Mitsubishi controllers usually expose OPC-UA or Modbus TCP endpoints we can read directly. Older gear with serial-only interfaces needs an edge gateway to bridge the gap. We assess feasibility in discovery before quoting — if your PLCs are genuinely too old, we'll say so rather than pretend.

Do your dashboards update in real time or in batches?

Both, depending on the use case. Vibration and temperature monitoring that feeds predictive maintenance needs sub-second streaming. OEE and shift-summary dashboards are fine on 15-second or minute-level aggregation. We'll design the pipeline to match the decision speed of each data consumer — real-time where it matters, batched where it doesn't, to keep infrastructure costs sane.

What sensor protocols do you support?

MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, and plain HTTPS webhooks cover most shop-floor scenarios. For specialist industrial buses (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IO-Link), we use edge gateways from vendors like Moxa or HMS that normalise the traffic into MQTT before it hits our pipeline. Protocol support is scoped in discovery — no surprises mid-build.

Does the system have to run in the cloud, or can it stay on-prem?

Either. Some manufacturers have strict data-sovereignty or air-gap requirements — we can deploy the full stack on-premises behind your firewall. Others prefer AWS eu-west-2 for elastic scaling and managed services. Hybrid is also common: edge processing on-site with aggregated analytics in the cloud. We design for your constraint, not our preference.

How do you handle OT network security vs IT network security?

We treat the OT/IT boundary as a hard architectural line. Sensor data flows one way through a DMZ — from the OT network into the IT analytics layer — with no inbound paths back to the shop floor. We follow IEC 62443 zone-and-conduit principles, segment traffic at the firewall, and document the boundary clearly so your OT and IT teams both know where their responsibilities start and stop.
